These sounds represents building blocks which are used to form words, and as such each is easily decipherable and understood by humans. Phonics is a method of teaching language which correlates these individual sounds to letters, both individually and in groups.

Phonics has proven to be a very effective method of teaching young children to read and write. It is thought that by teaching children how to decode words by breaking them down they have a fuller understanding of language as they grow older.
